. . . a place for peace

Reflections from Retreatants

The Sanctuary is a peaceful home away from home. We have been coming here for over ten years and enjoy its beauty and comfort. The sound of the birds in the morning, the nearby beach and hiking trails along Lake Michigan during the day, and the brilliant stars at night make this a wonderful place of retreat, rest, and relaxation. The accommodations are excellent, and Hugh and Lee LeVoy are great hosts. We highly recommend the Sanctuary to anyone who is looking for a place for grace.

The Sanctuary is the ideal setting for a personal retreat. It has become a touchstone for me each spring and fall, and I always leave feeling rested and renewed. I enjoy the peace and privacy, and having the comforts of home without the distractions. The natural beauty of the grounds and nearby Lake Michigan always inspires me and my artwork. The cabin affords ample work space and good lighting for drawing and painting. If someone is new to taking a personal retreat for a weekend or a week, the Sanctuary is the best place I know of to experience it.

My delight in the silence and solitude of Sanctuary is beyond the capture of words.
Inside or out, I was enfolded each moment by the rhythm of nature.
Sunlight played in and out of the clouds, streaming down, finding and warming me.
By the purr of wings, the chickadees called me to come out and sit with them as they played among the pine boughs.
Often the tall and stately Sandhill cranes announced their arrival to examine the front lawn for a tasty meal. Just a short trip to Lake Michigan provided the ebb and flow of the water on the shore or close by, a trail leading into the deep woods.
With evening shadows, out came the deer. Even darkness revealed yet another wonder - billions of stars visible in the night. Continuously I was praising God and heard Meister Eckhart say, "Every creature is a book about God".
